Antique U.S. Springfield Model 1884 Trapdoor Rifle
Description: Antique U.S. Springfield Model 1884 Trapdoor Rifle Indian Wars-era, Large Bore, Long-Range Rifle Here we present an antique U.S. Springfield Model 1884 Trapdoor Rifle, made circa 1884 by Springfield Armory. Amazingly, despite the adoption of the ill-fated Model 1882 Chaffee-Reese Bolt Action Magazine Rifle, new models of trapdoor rifles continued to be produced and used all the way through the mid-1890s, until finally, the Krag-Jorgensen was adopted. The U.S. continued to see unrest and conflict with the displaced Native Americans during this time, including the Wounded Knee Massacre on December 29th, 1890. Trapdoors continued to see use all the way through the Spanish American War. This specimen is one of the early production of the Model 1884, featuring a “U.S./MODEL/1873” marked breech, as Ordnance was trying to use up remaining part stock. The lock is marked “Eagle/U.S./Springfield”. The overall condition is good. The iron surfaces are dark with age and show signs of weathering. The markings are clear and legible. The stock is in good shape with signs of light sanding. The bore is fair, scattered roughness with distinct rifling. The action on this rifle is excellent. A neat relic from the Indian Wars era of the US! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 32-5/8 inches. Caliber: .45-70 GOVT Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $875 #7234 SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes |
