Here we present an antique Percussion Half-Stocked Long Rifle. Though this rifle has been restocked, all of its primary parts are from the 1840s-60s era, including the G. Goulcher lock.

This example features a long, 39-inch octagonal barrel. Such a weapon would have been used for self-defense and providing protection for the homestead. Though faint, “G. GOULCHER” can be read on the lock. Goulcher was active in New York in the 1850s and 1860s, and some have even speculated that he only made locks. Rifle manufacture in the mid-to-late 19th Century was rapidly changing over from thousands of craftsmen all over the United States and on the Frontier making and selling their wares, to the large factories with standardized assembly lines and modern manufacturing techniques. Many makers’ names of the so-called Kentucky long rifles have been lost over time. This rifle is one such example. This is an interesting piece all around!

The overall condition is very good. Strong action. The bore is in good shape. Ornately scroll inscribed, solid stock. Golcher engraved lock. Here’s a true looker for the collection!
