Beautiful Antique Half-Stock Pennsylvania Kentucky Long Rifle Signed JM attributed to J. Miers of Somerset, PA
Description: Beautiful antique Half-Stock Long Rifle attributed to J. Miers of Somerset, PA, made approximately the late 1840s to the early 1850s. The. Miers family manufactured guns in Somerset, PA on Main Street in the mid-1800s. See attached listing for the maker. The barrel is forged from a flat steel bar into a gun barrel, hammered around a steel rod to form the bore, then manually rifled with crude hand-driven rifling jigs. Pennsylvania Long Rifles are "light in weight; graceful in line; economical in consumption of powder and lead; fatally precise; distinctly American; it sprang into immediate popularity; and for a hundred years was a model often slightly varied but never radically changed.” The overall condition is very good. The one-click lock and double-set triggers function properly. The bore is in good shape. Great maple tiger-striped stock. Metal finish has approximately 70% of the original finish. Wood finish is original and has not been re-finished. Nice brass hardware that retains the original patina and a silver shield on the beavertail cheekpiece. Original silver front sight and original rear sight. Beautiful ramrod looks old but has been replaced. The top of the barrel is stamped with "J M". This is a wonderful piece that has been well cared for and is completely capable of being fired. 100% authentic. James 509-294-1818 Barrel is 38 inches. Caliber: 38 with strong rifling and a good bore. Shipping $40 3 day inspection for refund of purchase price if not happy, as long as returned undamaged. Thanks for visiting.
