British Pattern 1842 cavalry carbine. 20â…›” round smoothbore barrel with fine bore. Lock has crown “VR” over “Tower” dated “1847” with a crown broad arrow ordnance mark to the right. Metal is very good with smooth brown patina, areas of minor pitting on lock and hammer. Usual proof marks are on the barrel, which is approximately .65 caliber. Wood is very good with a small piece missing at the rear of the lock. Brass furniture Is nicely aged with butt plate tang having a “G/43” issue mark. Sling ring, bar and captured cleaning rod are present. Action functions properly. A scarce early percussion carbine in really nice condition.
