c1860s mfr NEW HAMPSHIRE Antique WILLIAM LAWRENCE .42 PERCUSSION Long Rifle Well-Crafted Excellent Precision Rifle
Description: c1860s mfr NEW HAMPSHIRE Antique WILLIAM LAWRENCE .42 PERCUSSION Long Rifle Well-Crafted Excellent Precision Rifle Here we present an antique William Lawrence Long Rifle, manufactured circa the late-1860s to early 1870s in Laconia, New Hampshire. According to George F. Bacon’s CENTRAL NEW HAMPSHIRE AND ITS LEADING BUSINESS MEN published in 1890, Lawrence (1827-1908) was “one of few manufacturers of breechloading guns who [carried] out every process from forging to finishing” and originated from Groton, Massachusetts. He began manufacturing firearms and selling ammunition in Laconia in 1868 and “his guns have gained an unsurpassed reputation for accuracy, durability, ease of management and general efficiency. Their workmanship is a delight to the mechanical eye and no guns in the market will do better work under all conditions of use.” Lawrence made rifles from the percussion period through the metallic cartridge period of the early 20th Century and observed firsthand the enormous changes in technology in his industry. The barrel is marked “WM.LAWRENCE” and “CAST STEEL” on the barrel flat. The rifle features round target front sight and a rear peep sight with a casehardened back action lock, hammer, trigger guard, and patch box and an attractive half stock with German silver furniture. This rifle is equipped with a stout octagonal barrel in .42 caliber, large enough to take small to medium sized game or to defend the homestead against unwanted aggression. Rifle manufacture in the mid-to-late 19th Century was rapidly changing over from thousands of craftsmen all over the United States and on the Frontier making and selling their wares, to the large factories with standardized assembly lines and modern manufacturing techniques. The overall condition is fine. Original finish and patina. The action is excellent, including the set trigger. The bore is shiny bright with sharp rifling. The stock shows use and remains solid. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 30 inches. Caliber: .42 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $2600 #244378 SOLD Antique: Yes |
