CIVIL WAR IMPORT PRUSSIAN Danzig Model 1809 Conversion Infantry Musket Dated 1827 with Original Regimental Markings
Description: CIVIL WAR IMPORT PRUSSIAN Danzig Model 1809 Conversion Infantry Musket Dated 1827 with Original Regimental Markings Here we present an antique Prussian Danzig Arsenal Model 1809 Percussion Conversion Musket, manufactured by the Danzig Arsenal in Prussia. Manufactured in 1827 as a flintlock, it was subsequently arsenal converted to percussion configuration. It features an “1827” dated Danzig marked lock and an “1827” dated barrel. This example would have started out life as a flintlock and converted to percussion, likely just prior to the American Civil War. Danzig is presently a city in Poland but was an important region in Prussia at the time this musket was made. The Model 1809 was originally made in the flintlock format, with later production shifting to the more modern and reliable percussion firing system. This musket would have been used in Prussian conflicts during the 1840s and 50s, including the Egyptian-Ottoman War, the Greater Poland Uprising, the Revolutions of 1848, and the First Schleswig War, before being sold to the United States government in the first years of the American Civil War. Though thoroughly obsolete, both the Union and the Confederacy were desperate for small arms as the South had little capability to make their own and the North had to scramble to ramp up their own production. The overall condition is good. This example was originally assigned to the 8th Company of a Landwehr Regiment as marked on the butt plate tang. Barrel and lock dated 1827. The stock is in good condition for the age and remains solid. Strong action. The bore is dim. The bayonet fits only with friction as this musket does not have a bayonet lug. The leather sling is a later addition that fits nicely and is in good condition. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 41-1/8 inches. Caliber: .71 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail!
