Civil War Period Kentucky Style Rifle .50 Cal Percussion with North Carolina Type Inlays 1850's-1860's

Gun retains a pleasing patina overall with some minor surface rust and light pitting. The lock is marked RANDALL WARRANTED. Good mechanical function. 35 inch octagon barrel. Wood has some dings and handling marks, looks like some old cracks that are solid in the wrist area, also has a 30 1/4 inch piece replaced along the barrel channel on the right side. Brass mounted with 19 German Silver looking inlays and a large brass inlay on the bottom ahead of the trigger guard. Brass sideplate. Patchbox catch works as it should. The line showing on the lock is actually a very old braised repair which is pretty neat. Appears to be a smoothbore, however it's rusty and we can't exactly tell. The barrel is about an inch wide. The whole gun is roughly 50 inches long. Many guns of this type were carried early on in the Civil War when the states were relying on local militias. It would be easy to picture this in the hands of a Confederate soldier.
