FRENCH Antique MUTZIG Arsenal Model 1846 Rifled MUSKET Second Republic .69 Antique Percussion Musket Produced at the MUTZIG ARSENAL
Description: FRENCH Antique MUTZIG Arsenal Model 1846 Rifled MUSKET Second Republic .69 Antique Percussion Musket Produced at the MUTZIG ARSENAL Here we present an antique French Model 1846 Rifle-Musket, manufactured in 1849 at the French arsenal at Mutzig. This musket was made at the beginning of the Second French Republic (1848-1852), just after the fall of the July Monarchy (1830-1848). This republic wouldn’t last long before Napoleon III’s coup and the Second Empire began. This example is in .69 Caliber and is rifled with a V-shaped rear sight. The lockplate is marked “Mre N.le / de Mutzig”, indicating manufacture at the French Arsenal located in Mutzig. There are armory proofs and acceptance marks throughout. This rifle would have been in service during the Crimean War (1853-1856), the Franco-Prussian War (1871), and the during the Paris Commune (1871). The Mutzig Arsenal, also known as the Impériale de Mutzig, is in the French town of Mutzig and is located in the Château des Rohan (The Castle of Rohan). The castle's history dates back to the 13th century, and after the French revolution, it became a small arms factory, as the castle was disowned by the Rohan family and pillaged during the conflict. In 1799, it was bought by the arms manufacturers, brothers Coulaux of Klingenthal, Bas-Rhin, who, on April 20, 1801, opened their weapons factory in its walls. The overall condition is Near Fine. Nice rifled bore. You couldn’t ask for a stronger, more robust action. The breech is dated “1846”, while the barrel reads “1849/MN”. All of the markings are clear. This rifle could be a study for French arsenal markings. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 36-3/8 inches. Caliber: .69 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1750 #190315 SOLD Antique: Yes |
