GERMANIC Antique JAEGER Short RIFLE .48 Cal Short, Handy Big-Bore Rifle from the Germanic States!
Description: GERMANIC Antique JAEGER Short RIFLE .48 Cal
Short, Handy Big-Bore Rifle from the Germanic States!
Here we present an antique Germanic Jaeger Rifle in .48 Caliber, made circa the 1840s in the German States. “Jaeger” means hunter in German. This rifle was made to be a short and handy tool for putting game on the table and protecting the homestead if it came to that. It features a full-length stock that reaches all the way to the muzzle. It is tipped in horn and has a mother of pearl compass rose on the cheekrest on the left side of the buttstock. The trigger guard and trigger are neatly embellished, the guard also acting as a pistol grip to compliment the straight wrist of the stock. The front of the stock is equipped with a sling swivel and the rear of the stock has a large button, through which the slotted ends of a leather sling would go. On the top of the wrist there is a small fixture that might once have held a peep sight. The sights that are present are a windage adjustable front and rear post & notch.
The overall condition is good. The iron parts have a dark patina. The stock has been repaired at the wrist. The bore is well-rifled and dark. The action remains strong. Here is a very handsome example of a German Jaeger!
