Description: NORTHEASTERN US Antique SUPERPOSED Percussion DOUBLE RIFLE Both .36 Caliber With GERMAN SILVER INLAID STAR on Stock Here we present an antique Over/Under Percussion Double Rifle, manufactured circa the mid-1800s. In a day when the vast majority of firearms were single shot, having a multi-shot firearm could offer a huge advantage. Whether hunting or fighting, a follow-up or second shot before having to reload could be a game changer, making them desirable on the frontier. Many of these rifles were made in the Northeastern US from New England and New York to Michigan. This Double Rifle features superposed barrels in .36 caliber. Each barrel has its own hammer and ramrod for loading. There are two ramrods, one on each side of the barrels. This example has a double set trigger system with separate hammers for each barrel. The overall condition is good. Original finish has mottled brown patina. Nice original stock with a repair left of the tang. The right hammer doesn’t catch but the other action is strong. Both bores are frosted in appearance and hold shimmer. Good rifling. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrels are 33 3/4 inches.
