Northwest Passage Indian Trade Gun Percussion I. Hollis and Sons Percussion Rifle
Description: Manufactured between 1861-1900 Northwest Passage Percussion Indian Trade Gun. Many trade guns were shortened like this one when their barrels were damaged or to make them more agile on horseback or in the woods. They were used from the colonial era and into the early 20th century and were the main firearms used by Native Americans through much of American history, including during the American Revolution, Custer's Last Stand, and during the late 19th century Indian Wars. This example has a Enfield style percussion lock and bolster, but otherwise remains mostly like the trade guns built for decades. No front site post, three-stage barrel with no barrel bands and British proofs, "I. HOLLIS & SONS" at the center of the lock and faint "MAKERS TO HER MAJESTY'S/WAR DEPARTMENT" around the "IHS" monogram logo on the tail of the lock, tear drop flats on the sides and breech, large trigger guard, classic Northwest gun serpent side plate, and brass ram rod guide and wooden ram rod. 25 marked on top of barrel with British proof marks. Functions in full and half cock. MIA rear brass plate. Probably used as a hide scraper. Rating Definition: Fair overall as period shortened to approximately 41 inches with a mix of gray and brown patina, mild pitting concentrate around the breech, minor cracks at the lock mortise and throughout the stock, flash wear above the hammer, and percussion cap. Very cool piece overall with lots of use! Price: $2,500.00 Antique: Yes Contact Seller |
