RARE Antique COLT PATERSON 1839 Revolving Carbine
Description: RARE Antique COLT PATERSON 1839 Revolving Carbine 1 of only 950 Made by Colts First Firearms Company Here we present an antique Colt Paterson Model 1839 Revolving Carbine, manufactured circa 1838-1841 in Paterson, New Jersey by the Patent Arms Manufacturing Company, Samuel Colt’s company. The Paterson Revolvers were the Colonel’s first foray into firearms manufacture. His original patent came in 1836 for the concept of the hammer revolving the cylinder one position and locking it into place. It has been said that his inspiration came from his time aboard a ship, observing the mechanics of the capstan, a revolving cylinder for winding rope that had the ability to lock in position, just like Colt’s single action mechanism would. Always the master at self-promotion, he got together an investment group to help fund his idea and he produced several thousand pieces in both handgun and long gun variants. However, they were quite expensive and military contracts did not materialize to any significant extent despite his best efforts. The company would fold in 1843, but Colt would not rest on his laurels. He worked on sundry other projects until he resumed work on firearms with his collaboration with Captain Samuel Walker on his first Dragoon in 1847. The Paterson Revolvers truly laid the groundwork for what was to become a massive success. This Colt Paterson Carbine features a 26 inch, fully octagonal smoothbore barrel chambered for .64 caliber ball. The massive cylinder is 2-1/2 inches long with a rounded back and six chambers. The top of the barrel is marked “Patent Arms M’g Co. Paterson, N.J. Colt’s Pt.” The overall condition is fair. The metal surfaces are dark with age and weathering. The markings are legible. The walnut stock is in good shape. The bore is smooth with a thick layer of fine dust. The action on this carbine is strong. Here is an excellent opportunity to own one of the rarest, most desirable of all Samuel Colt’s revolvers! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 26 inches. Caliber: .64 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail!
