RARE Antique G.P. FOSTER Percussion Rifle in .38
Description: RARE Antique G.P. FOSTER Percussion Rifle in .38 Interesting Rifle from Bristol, Rhode Island Here we present an antique G.P. Foster Percussion Rifle manufactured circa 1855 in Bristol, Rhode Island. Foster was a machinist and gunmaker at least as early as 1843. At this time, he was involved with several groundbreaking firearms designs, including the Klein’s Patent bolt action needle rifle, the Volcanic and Porter Turret Rifle. In the process, he would actually employ the likes of Horace Smith, Daniel Wesson and C.D. Schubarth. He would go on to work as foreman for the Bristol Fire Arms Company, as well as the Burnside Rifle Company during the American Civil War. This rifle features a distinctive design. The mechanism is a boxlock with a side hammer, the enclosure for which seems very small and compact in comparison to this rifle’s single shot, long rifle contemporaries. It has double set triggers for precision shots. The trigger guard doubles as a pistol grip. The frame is lightly engraved. The stock has an iron patchbox and butt plate. This rifle’s slim overall contours would have made it very nice to carry. It is both aesthetically distinct and simply elegant. The left side of the frame is marked “G.P. FOSTER/BRISTOL/R.I.” in block letters and the top barrel flat is signed the same. The overall condition is good. The metal surfaces are dark with age. The markings are legible. The stock is in good shape. The bore is dark. The action on this rifle is nonfunctioning. The hammer is currently stuck and there is no spring tension. Here is a rare and unique rifle, made by a gunmaker who rubbed shoulders with some of the most famous names in firearms history! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 33-7/8 inches. Caliber: .38 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1750 #7149 SOLD Antique: Yes |
