Scarce HARPERS FERRY US M1819 Hall Conversion
Description: Scarce HARPERS FERRY US M1819 Hall Conversion Originally Flintlock Converted to Percussion Dated “1831” Here we present a U.S. Harpers Ferry Hall Breech-Loading Model 1819 Percussion Musket, manufactured in 1831. John Harris Hall was an innovative inventor and forward thinking gunsmith during his time. Aside from his contributions to mass production, Hall also designed and developed the M1819 Hall Rifle that bears his name. Though a single shot long gun, the best quality of this rifle was its patented breech loading system which allowed the operator to load and reload his weapon at the action as opposed to the muzzle. This meant the shooter no longer had to stand his weapon on its butt and engage in a time-consuming reloading process. The M1819 Hall Rifle became the first breech loading rifle in the world to be adopted in significant quantities by a national army. In 1819, the United States Army formally adopted the Hall Rifle into inventory with an order for 1,000 Hall Rifles, thus earning the designation of “Model 1819”. These guns were produced out of the Harpers Ferry Arsenal utilizing Hall’s assemble line methodology. As is this one, many Model 1819 muskets saw conversion to percussion in the years leading up to or even during the American Civil War, essentially converting it to a Model 1841 Hall. In total, 23,500 Model 1819 Hall Rifles were produced. Hall died long before the war on February 26, 1841, though not before leaving his imprint on firearms and mass production history. The lock is marked “J.H. Hall/H. Ferry/US/1831”. The overall condition is fair. The iron surfaces show weathering. The markings are legible. The barrel is slightly canted. The stock has been refinished. The bore is dark. The action is functional, though the mainspring is on the light side. Nevertheless, here is an example of a scarce US small arm that was revolutionary in its day and saw a lot of significant history pass since its creation. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 32 ¾ inches. Caliber: .52 Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE.
