Very Rare Richmond Armory 1861 Type I .58 caliber rifle-musket. Has a 37½” round barrel with no visible rifling. The high hump lock is dated 1861 and is marked “Richmond, VA”. This is the earliest variant made before the Confederate government took over the Richmond Armory. Metal is smooth with a gray/brown patina. The 1855 Type stock is very good with no cracks or chips. Sling swivels and rear sight are absent. Lock attachment screws are replacements, the action functions correctly. With a little work, you could make this the centerpiece of your collection. It won’t last at this price!
