This is an original Belgum Flobert Wanant single shot breech loading rifle chambered in 6mm. The rifle features a 22-1/2” inch full octagon barrel, straight grain hardwood stock, rolling block breech loading mechanism, and blue’d finish. The rifle originates from between the early 1890’s to the early 1920’s. The three main Flobert variants are described and illustrated in Single Shot Rifles and Actions by Frank De Haas. Many Floberts were made of very soft steel and designed to sell at the lowest possible price. In 1920, when a box of 100 black powder .22 shorts cost 21 cents, the price of a new Flobert rifle was about $2.50. This rifle is in fair condition, with wear and signs of use. The mechanics are working, but the front blade sight is missing. The bore shows some darkness. There is no serial number but there are Belgian proof marks on the left side of the barrel near the breach.
