Sharps Model 1869 w/ Freund Modification
Description: This is a Sharps Model 1869 that has seemingly been reworked by Freund & Bro. SN: 50697. As with the Model 1869 rifles, it has a percussion frame with a wide 1874-style lockplate. It does have the 1869 patent date. rather than the 1848, which leads me to believe this gun may have been one of the later rifles that were essentially leftover parts. Overall, the rifle is in good condition. The action works as it should, as do the set triggers. The barrel is marked "Old Reliable", "Sharps Rifle Co. Bridgeport Conn.", and "Calibre 45". The cartridge, while not marked on the barrel, seems to be 45-70. The barrel measures in at a touch over 30 inches, and retains very good rifling - it is heavy, measuring at 1.2 inches across flats, and as such, the rifle weighs around 14 lbs. Oddly, the serial number is not stamped on the bottom of the barrel, which could be the result of a non-factory rework, ie the barrel was ordered from the factory by itself. The wood is in good condition for its age, though it does have some bumps and bruises that are commonly seen with guns this old, as well as a small area of old fiberglass under the barrel - looks like it could be removed should you desire. The detachable pistol grip is marked " F Freund Patented Oct. 19 1875". The rear sight is oddly beaten up, and so it was likely taken from the old barrel and modified to fit. If you have any questions, or would like any other photos, do not hesitate to ask. The payment methods listed are the only ones that I will accept. Fully insured shipping is included in the price.
