Kentucky Style Long Rifle Made Circa the 1840s

Here we present an antique R. R. Moore Half-Stock Back Action Percussion Target Rifle, made circa the 1860s. R.R. Moore was a very well respected gunmaker who built rifles that were used as sniper rifles (precision rifles) during the American Civil War. This example is a post-war long rifle.

“R.R. MOORE/CORTLAND/N.Y.” and “No. 1341” are marked on the left side of the barrel. The stock features the New York style with a gently sloping pistol grip transitioning into the butt stock. The trigger guard is of German silver and doubles as a pistol grip in conjunction with the curved wrist of the rifle. The right side of the butt stock is inset with a shapely patchbox. German silver crescent butt plate. No cheek piece, flat stock design. Octagonal barrel with a turned down muzzle. Target sights. The single trigger is very nice and crisp. This is a wonderfully built precision rifle from NY!

The overall condition is fine. The action is strong. The bore is bright with sharp rifling. The stock is solid. A beauty!
