Army Navy .500 Nitro Express double rifle, ejectors, mechanical safety, filed rib, moon bead, strong bores, tight, 14.55 LOP, layaway
Description: Army Navy .500 Nitro Express double rifle. Made in 1914 by Webley & Scott, serial 55016 (action, tang & forend with number 13286 on barrel loop and forend lever) has 27-inch barrels. Features include a filed rib and front sight base, brass-beaded blade and lifting moon bead, sling loop, dovetailed drift-adjustable rear sight assembly (fixed express blade and two folding leafs with silver aiming lines marked 100/200/300), ejectors, mechanical safety, disc set strikers, steel grip cap, toe line hook and a leather-covered recoil pad. Metal finish is rust blue with color case over most of the action, forend iron and grip cap. The rifle appears to have been made by Webley & Scott. DIMENSIONS: Weight is 12.0 pounds and length-of-pull is 14.55 inches. CONDITION: The bores are bright with strong rifling and but trace hints of frosting. Barrels are full on face, the lever rests centered (with empty chambers) and the ejectors kick with authority. As restored, barrel finish is approximately 70 percent with sharp markings. Colors are approximately 85 percent. Wood is solid with properly-defined checkering, remains proud at the action and is approximately 80 percent. HISTORY: Originating from an estate, history and regulation/accuracy information are unknown. No case, ammo or other inclusions. HISTORY: As reported by a researcher with access to the A&N records, the rifle was made by Webley & Scott in 1914 but not sold until 1920 (WW1 years), it is listed as an “Anson TB Club Head Cordite rifle”. Some may also find it interesting that it has London rather than Birmingham proofs. The price is firm and layaway is available. $20,000 plus shipping. SOLD Rifle Caliber: .500 Nitro Express |
