VERY FINE EARLY J. M. MARLIN BALLARD No. 6 SCHUETZEN RIFLE, .40-65 EVERLASTING  (.40-63) CALIBER. #22XX, MADE 1876-1880, WITH ACCESSORIES. This is a really nice example of one of Ballard”s finest target rifles. It has a heavy 30” oct. barrel fitted with a windage adjustable spirit level front sight mated with a tang sight adjustable for elevation. The barrel shows good thinning and aging blue with minor evidence of rust near the muzzle on the right side, but is overall uncleaned with an attractive appearance. The receiver shows fine light case color which is a little more faded on the right side. The correct Swiss butt plate retains good nickel plating with brass showing through in the center portion and edges. Fine fairly sharp checkering on the wrist and forearm with some slight indentation wear on the left side wrist. Correct original horn forend tip. Double set triggers with adjustment screw function properly. Tight action, exc. wood, bright excellent sharp bore. Matching serial numbers on the barrel, receiver and forend (I did not remove the butt plate). Weighs just over 13 lbs. Included is an antique wood box containing a "M F A Co. 40  330" marked bullet mold, various loading tools, front sight inserts and numerous brass including new RMC .40-63 BAL. headstamped brass, etc..  A most attractive nearly 150 year old Ballard.
