CIVIL WAR Antique BALLARD Carbine in .56 Spencer
1 of 1,000 Purchased by Kentucky!
Description: CIVIL WAR Antique BALLARD Carbine in .56 Spencer 1 of 1,000 Purchased by Kentucky! Here we present an antique Ball & Williams Ballard Rifle in .56-56 Spencer, made circa 1864 by Ball & Williams in Worcester, Massachusetts. These were sturdy, reliable rifles and carbines that were favorites for many during the war, though production numbers remained fairly low. This particular variant was made for the new 56-56 Spencer cartridge, handy since the Spencer Carbine was becoming prevalent on the battlefield, making logistics a little easier to make sure ammunition supplies were strong. A company called Dwight, Chapin were contracted to assist in the manufacture of these weapons but their inability to get it done put them out of business. The few completed rifles were acquired by the contracting company of Merwin & Bray and the unassembled parts were then assembled by Ball & Williams. Only 1,000 are estimated to have been built in this manner and sold to the state of Kentucky for its militia troops. “MERWIN & BRAY AGTS / N. Y.” is visible on the left side of the frame. The upper right side of the receiver is marked "BALLARDS PATENT / NOV. 5, 1861". The overall condition is very good. The iron parts have a mottled gray patina. The markings are legible. The walnut stock is dark and shows that this gun was used as expected yet remains solid. The bore is in good condition with strong rifling. The action is excellent, strong and crisp. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 22 inches. Caliber: 56-56 Spencer Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $2500 #190124 SOLD Antique: Yes |
