CIVIL WAR Period BALL & WILLIAMS BALLARD .44 Rifle
Description: CIVIL WAR Period BALL & WILLIAMS BALLARD .44 Rifle Low Serial Number, Scarce, Only About 5,000 Made! Here we present an antique Ball & Williams Ballard Rifle in .44 Rimfire, made in 1862 by Ball & Williams in Worcester, Massachusetts. The Ballard design was one of the favorite long arms during the Civil War period, though production numbers do not necessarily reflect it. The original designer was Charles H. Ballard and his agents Merwin & Bray oversaw production between several different companies. It was a simple, single-shot falling block action and was one of the early guns that would fire a metallic cartridge. This model was not made for a specific contract, state or otherwise, like many others. However, this was made during the war period and may very well have been thrust into a militia role. This one has a three digit serial number and matches on the numbered parts. The octagonal barrel is chambered for .44 Rimfire and is marked “BALL & WILLIAMS/WORCESTER MASS”, “MILWARD’S PATENT” and “BALLARD’S PATENT/NOV 5 1861”. It is equipped with sling swivels. There is a small area under the rear sight leaf that is engraved. The overall condition is good. The barrel retains 60% blue with clear markings. The numbers match. The walnut stock has been repaired around the wrist and is solid. The extractor knob on the bottom of the frame has been replaced. The bore is in great shape, clean with nice rifling. The action needs some adjustment work as the trigger must be held forward to hold the hammer in full cock. This is a nice example of a desirable rifle for a great price! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 24 inches. Caliber: .44 Rimfire Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1400 #8116 SOLD Antique: Yes |
