R. BALL & Co. BALLARD No. 38 FALLING BLOCK Rifle Scarce, One of About 5,000 Made!
Description: R. BALL & Co. BALLARD No. 38 FALLING BLOCK Rifle Scarce, One of About 5,000 Made! Here we present an antique R. Ball & Co. Ballard No. 38 Falling Block Rifle in .38 Rimfire, made circa 1865 through 1867 in Worcester, Massachusetts. R. Ball & Co. and Ball & Williams are the same company. If the rifle was marked Ball & Williams, it was made between 1862 and 1865, whereas an R. Ball & Company marked rifle would have been made between 1865 and 1867. The Ballard design was one of the favorite long arms during the Civil War period, though production numbers do not necessarily reflect it. It was a simple, single-shot falling block action and was one of the early guns that would fire a metallic cartridge. This rifle was made just after the war period and would have been used in a militia role. The Ballard is an interesting rifle in that it began its career during the American Civil War, when it was produced in relatively small numbers (only about 24,000 from 1862-1873) by five different manufacturers. It was ultimately made a commercial success when made into one of the staples of the Marlin Company. Charles H. Ballard invented the rifle and the famed arms agents Merwin & Bray secured government contracts and lined up the firearms companies to make them. The overall condition is good+. The action is strong all around. The bore is bright with sharp rifling. The stock has been repaired. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 28-1/4 inches. Caliber: .38 Rimfire Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1150 #20417 SOLD Antique: Yes |
