SUPERB QUALITY BALLARD RIFLE AND CARTRIDGE Co. CUTOM No. 4 "PERFECTION" MODEL IN .40-65 CALIBER, #C2XX These were last made over 20 years ago when the company was sold and then resold with production halted ( I was a dealer for them at the time). Their motto was that their rifles were not reproductions, but simply a continuation of the Ballard rifles that were discontinued in 1891. Workmanship on these was impeccable with each rifle receiving hand fitting and tuning. This rifle has double set triggers, traditional "Ring" lever, shotgun butt with checkered steel butt plate, case hardened action, lever and butt plate, nicely grained fancy walnut with AAA finish, schnable forend tip, 32" polished blue action, rear sight dovetail with filler, scope blocks mounted on the barrel top with approx. 10 1/2" spacing center to center, mid-range Soule tang sight with Hadley eye disc and spirit level front globe sight that will take inserts. Overall, this rifle has seen very limited use and is in excellent condition with very tight action and bright exc. bore. Weighs right at about 11 lbs. A stunning rifle that was made for a few years in limited numbers. Great caliber that is simply the .45-70 case easily necked down to take .40 caliber bullets- Starline also makes correctly headstamped brass. These rarely show up for sale.
