Vintage Firearms is pleased to offer this distinctive German Schuetzen rifle chambered in 8.15x46R, the classic continental target cartridge also encountered as the 8.15×46 Norm. Weighing 13lbs. 1oz. and fitted with a 31-1/4-inch heavy octagonal barrel, this is a substantial, purpose-built offhand traditional German target rifle.

Based on its construction, markings, and certain unfinished details, we believe the rifle may have been assembled from a period Udo Anschütz component set or gunsmith-supplied kit rather than completed entirely at the factory. Rifles of this type were sometimes finished by individual gunsmiths or skilled shooters to suit their personal preferences.

The elaborate honey-colored stock is shaped with a pronounced cheekpiece, thumb rest, deep pistol grip, and two-pronged Swiss-style buttplate, all intended to support a consistent offhand shooting position. The stock finish remains very good. Two repaired areas are present on the right side of the forend, and the stock displays a partially completed checkering pattern, clearly shown in the photographs.

The falling-block action retains approximately 99% of its vivid case color, while the lever and trigger-guard assembly retain approximately 90%. The hand-detachable trigger unit allows quick access for adjustment and maintenance. Its adjustable set trigger releases crisply at approximately three ounces when set, with an unset pull of approximately 3.2 pounds.

The removable precision aperture, or diopter, rear sight is paired with a protected front blade mounted between substantial wings. An additional dovetail near the breech end of the matted barrel rib provides another sight-mounting option. The barrel retains approximately 95% blue, and the bore is superb, rating 9.5 out of 10 with a bright surface and strong, sharply defined rifling.

With its impressive Schuetzen stock architecture, excellent bore, precision sights, detachable trigger assembly, and strong remaining finishes, this is an appealing example of the specialized rifles developed for Germany’s historic offhand target-shooting tradition.
