Anschutz X rifle (1607) Coeur de Lion, one of a kind
Description: A legendary target rifle, that also is a one-of-a-kind work of art. With original stock, hand stop, and sights. One of a kind airbrushed artwork throughout. Current retail value approximately $7000, considering the one of a kind art work, the base rifle model, completeness of accessories, and condition. If interested in purchasing, please email an offer to consider. An offer of about $6000 plus shipping is likely to be accepted. Phone calls are fine, but due to the number of junk calls received and call filtering, email is better for initial contact. Basis for the offer, including reasons for request of the items as a gift for charitable or other purposes, can be considered. Discount is available if combined with some of the other firearms. The Anschutz X-rifles, an intermediate series between the 1500 and 1700 rifles, were an attempt to reduce lock time, but soon were recognized to be much more accurate than their predecessor, or successor guns. This was attributed to the specific steel used for the barrel and receiver, but investigation of this at a scientific level was limited. As best can be determined at this time, this unusual accuracy was due to two somewhat accidental factors: the specific alloy used for the steel, and somewhat accidental, prolonged cryotreating of the steel after the initial hot hot and cold forming of the metal before it was used for rifle barrels and actions. In essence, the X-guns appear to have been an accidental initial use and success of cryotreatment of barrels and actions. While developed for a faster lock time for the firing pin compared to the prior serieses, this was of no significance in their accuracy or function, and the original or intended design and engineering modifications were of no significant value. The X series rifles are marked as M54, without a specific series number, other than the X serial number. With a 26" supermatch barrel, this gun would fit into the sequence pattern of a 1607, but generally these are only called X-guns, rather than 1607 or 1613 (for the longer barrel version). This one offered is unfired except for the original factory test firing. It is one of a few that were converted to airbrush works of art in Germany. One side has the image of a lion, the other a tiger, with additional wildlife scenes on both sides of the fore grips. The X-guns are uncommon , but not rare, with the total production run being around 28,000-30,000. Those converted to works of art are truly rare, with between 6 and 20 producted, and very few of those with this level of artistry.. No original paperwork. There are a few minor defects in the paint surface, in the form of mild or slight imperfections from handling at a few edges, and two pressure marks near the tiger face. Any speckling in the images is from illumination and not in the paint surface. The front sight is from Centra, but original to the rifle.
