1971 Vintage Belgian Browning Safari Grade High Power Rifle in .338 Winchester Magnum w/ Redfield Base and Rings
** Classy Big Game Rifle **
Description: This is a nice honest and all-original Belgian-mfg. Browning Safari Grade High Power rifle chambered in .338 Winchester Magnum. This rifle has been to Africa and hunted with, and as such shows some handling marks and light finish wear in places, but has been well cared for by the original owner. The Browning Safari Grade High Power rifle was introduced in 1960 and manufactured for 14 years until 1974. It quickly earned a reputation amoung shooters and hunters as an extremely well-made, attractive, reliable, accurate, and classy rifle. The High Power was built on both Mauser-style actions and Sako actions, and was offered in numerous chamberings from centerfire varmint calibers to dangerous game belted-magnum calibers. This particular example was made in 1971 and uses a Sako action and a 24" inch barrel chambered in the potent .338 Winchester Magnum cartridge. As you can see from the pictures, the original factory gloss-blue finish on this rifle still has a very attractive look to it and it only shows light finish wear. The most severe areas of finish wear are located on the magazine floorplate and a 1" inch spot on top of the barrel between 7 and 8 inches back from the muzzle. As you can see from the pictures of these two areas, neither spot is bad and they do not detract much from the pleasing look of this Browning. The bore in this rifle is excellent, mirror-bright and free from any pitting, erosion, or visible imperfections. The rifling still has sharp lands and grooves throughout, it is obvious that this rifle has been carried afield far more than it was actually fired. The original stock on this rifle is in good condition overall, free from any cracks, chips, repairs, or major damage. As mentioned before, it shows some minor dings, dents, and scratches but nothing that really sticks out. The factory checkered forearm and pistol grip show some light wear but still have nicely defined borders. The factory installed sling studs are still in-place, and the factory installed Browning-branded recoil pad makes the length of pull on this rifle 13.75" inches. We have taken the rifle out of the stock to check for salt and it appears to be completely salt-free. All of the metal below the woodline is rust-free. All of the controls on this Safari Grade are in perfect working order, including the factory adjustable rear sight. The action on this Browning is slick and precise, and it turns into battery perfectly with no slop. The trigger is very nice, breaking without any excessive travel or grit. We have no doubt that this rifle will shoot just as accurately and reliably as it did when it left the factory 49 years ago. This Safari Grade High Power comes with a period Redfield 1-piece base and 1" rings already mounted up. All this rifle needs is a quality scope and it will be ready for the woods or range. If you have been looking for a high quality and classy big game/dangerous game rifle for your collection this vintage Belgian Browning High Power would be an excellent choice. This is a rifle that you can be proud to own, and the .338 Winchester Magnum chambering will allow you to take ANY big game quickly and cleanly in North America and elsewhere.
