1957 Belgian Browning Auto .22 Take-Down Rifle (ATD) w/ Vintage Bushnell Scopechief IV
Description:
This is a very early (1957) Belgian manufactured Browning ATD .22. The serial number is 15336 which matches all numbered parts including the buttplate, the face of the receiver, and the trigger group. It was originally a "wheel sight" model but the rear sight was removed and misplaced in favor of mounting a scope base in it's place. The previous owner mounted a vintage Bushnell Scopechief IV scope that is variable power from 1.5X to 4.5X on the Weaver cantilever scope mount. This little Browning is in very good condition overall, with 90% of the original factory blue finish remaining. The bore is perfect on this .22. It appears bright and clean with strong rifling and there is no pitting, erosion, or imperfections of any kind visible. The factory checkered stock set is in good shape. It still has a nice look to it and shows just minor handling marks you would expect to see on a carried and used but not abused rifle. There is a very small crack just behind the trigger guard that is not deep nor does it go thru the stock towards the top. It appears that someone along the way tightened the stock up too much and caused it. We can not get the crack to open or move even with a lot of twisting pressure, it should not require any attention. The rifle works 100% like the day it left the Belgian factory. All of the controls work perfectly and the rifle takes down and goes back together tightly, but with ease. The bolt works smoothly and goes into battery perfectly and all of the springs have proper tension including the magazine follower. The Bushnell Scopechief is also in perfect working order. The optics are clear and bright, and the adjustments for windage and elevation all work perfectly. It should hold zero for decades to come. If you have been looking for one of these interesting and classy .22 rifles for your collection that you can shoot, this Belgian-made ATD .22 would be a perfect choice.
