1958 BROWNING BELGUIM FACTORY ENGRAVED "GRADE III" SA-22 LR
Description: 1958 BROWNING BELGUIM FACTORY ENGRAVED "GRADE III" SA-22 LR
Manufactured in Belgium by FN in 1958, the Browning SA-22 Grade III is a semi-automatic, takedown rifle chambered in .22 Long Rifle. The design feeds from a tubular magazine housed in the buttstock. It features a high-polish blued barrel fitted with a dovetailed blade front sight and an adjustable rear “wheel” sight. The rifle incorporates a gold-toned trigger, push-button safety, and steel serrated buttplate. The walnut shoulder stock and beavertail forearm display fine checkering and a satin finish consistent with Browning’s mid-century production standards.
The receiver exhibits a bright finish with extensive factory engraving characteristic of the Grade III pattern. Scroll and floral motifs are executed in high relief, accompanied by detailed game scenes: a bird dog flushing two pheasants on the left, three ducks on the right, and a bird dog holding a duck on the top of the receiver (Most likely Master engraver N. Watson, pre 1970 guns). The trigger guard carries complementary engraving. This SA-22 is gently used, showing minor handling wear on the trigger and light surface marks on the wood consistent with age. The bore condition is described as bright, and the rifle retains its original finish throughout major components.
Configuration details include the takedown mechanism typical of the SA-22 series and a tubular magazine integrated into the stock. No accessories or additional components are specified beyond the rifle itself. The firearm reflects Browning’s Belgian factory craftsmanship from the late 1950s, with engraving work attributed to the period’s Grade III production standards.
