1964 Browning ATD 22 Grade 1 Rifle in .22 LR
** Nice Honest All-Original Rifle **
Description: This is a very nice all-original and clean Belgian Browning ATD22 rifle. This example was made in 1964 and has been well cared for over the years. The modern Belgian-made ATD22 (Auto Take-Down .22 Caliber) rifle was first introduced in 1956 and was manufactured in various grades until 1974. It was a very successful design that quickly earned a reputation for being accurate, well-made, and very attractive and classy. The small size of this rifle and take-down capability made it a favorite of shooters of all sizes, as well as those shooters where portability was a concern. The reliable semi-auto bottom-eject design and the ease of field stripping were also huge draws to this model and remain so today. This particular Browning is in excellent shape overall. The factory gloss blue finish still looks great and rates 96%. The finish is bright, clean, and consistent, with the deductions coming from some finish wear on the bottom of the triggerguard and some tiny handling marks scattered about. As you can see form the pictures, these deductions do not detract much at all from the overall attractive look of this ATD22. The bore in this rifle is excellent. It is mirror bright and free from any pitting, erosion, or imperfections. The rifling still has nice sharp lands and grooves and the crown of the barrel is in perfect condition. The original checkered stock set is in great shape. Both the forearm and buttstock are free from any cracks, gouges, or repairs, and the checkering is still clean and crisp. As to be expected with a lightly used gun of this vintage, the wood does show some little dings, dents, and handling marks consistent with the rest of the gun. The original buttplate is still in place and in excellent condition. It is perfectly fit to the butt and tight to the wood. All of the controls on this Browning work perfectly. The action works smoothly by hand with no slop, and the trigger is quite good for one of these rifles, breaking with a light pull with no grit. This ATD22 comes apart and goes together perfectly when taken down. There is no play between the two halves, and the locking detent is intact and 100% functional (often these are missing a spring or detent part). The original factory adjustable rear sight is also in excellent condition and not buggered up like many you will see. If you have been looking for a nice clean Belgian Browning ATD22 for your collection that could serve as both an investment and a shooter, this example would be a great choice. It has just enough wear that with proper care it could be shot without harming it's value, and yet it is still clean enough to be a great long-term investment in it's present condition.
