Browning A-Bolt 1 Stainless Stalker 270 Win with Leupold Scope, Sling
Description: The A-Bolt 1 Stainless Stalker is one of Browning’s finest hunting rifles. It features a matte stainless finish, composite stock with polymer recoil pad and hinged floor plate, and a 22” long barrel. The barrel is threaded at the muzzle. The thread protector is not from this rifle and is a bit short. Tightened down it leaves about two threads at the tip exposed. The rifle is equipped with a Leupold Vari-X 3-9x Compact scope. Overall, the rifle is in excellent shape with minor wear. The scope body exhibit minor finish wear or scratches but the lens are in excellent shape and provide a clear picture of the target. There is light wear to the stock. The stainless steel finish exhibits some wear to the surface but nothing that is deep. The bore exhibits well defined rifling with no rust though some fouling is present. The muzzle does have quite a bit of unburnt powder at the tip. Chambered for the popular 270 Winchester, this rifle would be affective for use against a wide variety of game ranging from varmints to medium sized game such as elk. The .270 Winchester was originally introduced in 1925 but was not immediately popular due to the relatively recent introduction of the .30-06 Springfield in 1906. It is was also an odd standout in terms of its .277-inch diameter bullet. The only other cartridge to use this bullet diameter prior to the .270 Win was the Chinese 6.8x57 Mauser cartridge for use in the Model 1907 Chinese Mauser and even that cartridge is mostly unheard of (many of the Model 1907s were rechambered for the standard German 8x57 Mauser). There is some debate about whether Winchester got the idea for the .270 from the Chinese round or if they simply took inspiration from the more familiar 7x57 Mauser aka the .275 Rigby. The .270 picked up in popularity after World War II once American hunters realized the .270 could shoot a flatter trajectory than its cousin the .30-06. Available bullets for the .270 range from the light weight 90 gr bullets up to the heavy 160 gr bullets. As a general rule of thumb, the 90 to 110 gr bullets are for varmints and small deer, 130 gr for mid-size deer, sheep, mountain goats, and antelope, while the 140 gr to 160 gr are for large deer, elk, caribou, and even moose. The 130 gr bullet is most popular followed closely by the 150 gr bullet. Due to the flat trajectory, the .270 also makes an excellent long range target round though there are other more popular cartridges for this role.
