The Browning BAR Mark II Lightweight was introduced in 1997 and was the firm's improved version of the original BAR semi-auto rifle in an aluminum alloy receiver. The Mark II Lightweight featured an improved gas system that further reduced felt recoil, a re-designed bolt release, a removable trigger assembly, a shorter factory barrel than the standard model, and a lightweight aluminum alloy receiver. The BAR Mk.II Lightweight quickly proved itself a fine weapon with "bolt-action like accuracy", low recoil, excellent reliability and portability, and handsome looks. This model remained in production until 2003, at which point it was discontinued and replaced with other "Lightweight" variations of the BAR Mk.II. This particular example was made in 1999 and has a factory 20" inch barrel chambered in 7mm Remington Magnum, a factory gloss blue finish on steel parts, a gloss black finish on the alloy receiver, a 4-shot detachable box magazine, and a checkered Walnut stock set with a gloss finish and a factory-installed recoil pad and sling swivel studs. It has been lightly-used and is in excellent mechanical condition. The original factory finishes show some minor handling marks and some small scratches/marring scattered about, but no major damage or eyesores. If not for being stored in a way too overcrowded and humid safe by the previous owner, many of these little imperfections would not be there as the rifle has probably only had a box of shells fired thru it since leaving the factory. The original gold finish on the trigger is near perfect, and the in-the-white bolt is still clean and bright. The bore is minty and bright in this BAR Mk.II Lightweight rifle, with no visible pitting, erosion, or imperfections of any kind. The original stock set is in very good condition showing only some very minor handling/storage dings. The checkered panels on the forearm and wrist are crisp and clean, while the factory-installed recoil pad is perfectly fit to the stock and tight to the wood. The factory sling swivel studs so some finish loss and marring but are perfectly placed in the stock, tight, and functional. All of the controls on this rifle are in perfect working order, and the semi-auto action is slick and precise in the receiver. When worked by hand the bolt slams home into battery with authority, leaving no doubt that this rifle will shoot just as well today as it did in 1999. The 7mm Remington Magnum chambering gives this rifle the power to cleanly take just about any big game in North America at just about any reasonable distance, with a very wide variety of factory loads readily available from numerous companies. If you have been looking for a handsome, well-made, semi-auto magnum-caliber rifle for your hunting rifle collection, here is your chance to get a top-of-the-line Browning BAR Mark II Lightweight for a great price. All this rifle needs is a nice scope mounted on it to be ready for the woods or range, as it comes with a 1-piece Redfield base and 1" inch rings already mounted-up.
