FN Deluxe Sporter Bolt Action Rifle in .270 Winchester caliber.
Description: This listing is for a Fabrique Nationale (FN for short) Mauser Deluxe Sporter Rifle in 270 Winchester caliber. This rifle was made in the FN factory located in Liege, Belgium. In addition to firearms made and sold under the FN brand they produced many Browning rifles, shotguns and pistols. FN made Deluxe Sporter Rifles were sold in the U.S. from 1947 through 1963. This rifle possesses several features which indicate it was made fairly early in the years it was available. (1) The barrel contour used on this rifle was changed to a different contour in 1952 and no longer produced. (2) The top of the receiver ring has an engraved FN oval monogram. This was omitted in later production. (3) Inside the receiver is a collar. On this rifle the collar on the right side is slotted (cut out) to accept the extractor. Later production had a second cut out on the left side opposite the extractor cut out. This second cut out was not necessary and was made only to simplify (speed up) production. Some believe this resulted in reducing the strength of the action. (4) The rifle has a fairly low serial number which is 3333. These factors place the year of the rifle as 1947 to 1952. My guess is in the late 1940s. Some features and specifications of this rifle are as follows. 24” barrel. Weight is 8 lbs - 4 ozs. Fine line checkering on the grip and wrap around checkering on the forearm. The stock has a steel cross bolt recoil lug. All steel construction except for the butt plate and grip cap. Length of pull is approx 13 ¼”. Wing safety appropriate for low scope use if desired. FN factory drilled and tapped receiver for scope base mounting. FN factory installed fixed sling swivels. FN factory installed Armstrong receiver sight along with a ramp front sight. As the rifle was factory equipped with a receiver sight there is no dovetail cut nor screw holes on the rear of the barrel. I purchased this rifle 26 years ago to add to a small collection of other similar FN rifles I had. The rifle was in excellent condition. It appeared to be unfired. I never fired it. If the buyer examines photo 15 they will see why I believe the rifle has not been fired. The bolt face does not show any signs of being fired. This rifle although not 100% pristine is in outstanding condition especially considering its age.The stock has a few very minor handling mars. The butt plate does have some fairly minor chipped edges. I’m possibly making this sound worse then it is, but I do not wish to overstate the condition. Overall, it is a very high quality rifle in excellent condition. Please thoroughly review the many photos and make your own determination on condition and quality of both the stock and the metal. FN Deluxe Sporters of this time period show a level of quality and old world craftsmanship that is rare in today’s affordable rifles. The rifle would make an excellent addition to a FN collection or an opportunity to acquire a quality rifle to shoot and enjoy. It is the buyers responsibility to assure receiving a lever action rifle is legal in their state and local area. Further, the buyer must furnish me with a copy of the dealer's FFL who will be handling the gun transfer. You will need to be sure the FFL holder accepts shipments from a private party. The last thing you want is a gun delivered to your FFL holder who can not, or will not, transfer the rifle to you. Any and all requirements of this FFL holder which affect me (the shipper) need to be communicated to me before the rifle is packaged for shipment. For shipment the rifle will be securely packaged in a heavy corrugated cardboard shipping carton. A flat rate shipping charge is $85.00 to the lower contiguous 47 states. No sales to CA. The $85.00 shipping charge will include insurance through the delivering carrier against loss or any shipping damage. I am a private party. I am not a gun dealer nor an amateur gun trader. As such I am not set up to take credit cards, PayPal, personal checks, etc. I accept Postal Money Orders, other Money Orders and Bank Cashier's Checks for payment. Shipment will be made very promptly for Postal Money Orders. Other forms of Money Orders may take a few days longer to clear my bank. Personal or business checks will not be accepted. A "no shooting" and "no disassembly" 3 day from date of delivery to your FFL holder inspection period applies. If the rifle is sent back the initial shipping & insurance charge will not be returned. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Email works best as hearing loss incurred over time on my end make telephone conversations difficult for both parties.
