ORIGINAL 16th. CENTRY HAND CANNON, AS FOUND.
Description: Hand Cannon, 16th century China had developed a wide variety of gunpowder weapons known as "fire lances" and "fire dragons," as well as flamethrowers and fireworks, as far back as the 10th century. The first true firearms that used gunpowder to launch a projectile can be dated to the Yuan Dynasty in the 13th century. These included bronze hand cannons, which could be held by one man and touched off by another. The range was short and accuracy poor, but the smoke, fire, and roar must have intimidated opponents of the time. Iron forged, 99 caliber barrels, each barrel fired separately with a hot wire through the touch hole, usually mounted on an 8 foot wooden pole, deployed in battlefields in along line of men holding this same weapon for the purpose of turning an enemy charge. An important specimen of antique firearms history. Barrel length 9". socket length 3.25" and overall 12", Antique: Yes Price: $1,900.00 Contact Seller |
