CZ Vz. 58, VZ58, Century Arms VZ2008, 7.62x39, with FIVE (5) Magazines, Excellent, near-unfired
Description: A safe queen from a local collector. As far as we can tell, this Czech VZ58/Vz.58, built from a kit by Century as the VZ2008, is virtually unfired and in excellent condition. This rifle has a solid milled receiver and very well-made and designed short-stroke action. AN EXCELLENT DEAL, as shown in the photographs, this rifle is being sold with FIVE (5) near-unissued, blued (4) and parkerized (1) magazines, currently selling for as much as $58 EACH (://vz58usa/product/vz58-magazine-30-rd-unissued/). The UNASSEMBLED PARTS KITS (no receiver or assembly) are selling for $900+, and the milled receiver by itself costs another $500! This rifle is an ideal start to build an as-issued Czech/Slovak Vz. 58 clone. With a finely machined/milled receiver and tough composite furniture, this Czech design was developed in 1958 and issued at the end of the 1950's. Czechoslovakia was a satellite state within the USSR's sphere of influence from post WW2, around 1948, until 1989. This model of rifle can be viewed as a lighter weight, locally designed and manufactured version of the AK47 for the Czech Army. Manufactured to a very high level of quality, (unlike a lot of AK47's) this short-stroke design shared nothing with the AK47, except for the caliber of ammunition, 7.62 x 39 mm. It is a very interesting variant on the AK-family of firearms. Held by many as a significant improvement on the AK design. The CZ v.58 was manufactured by CZ, ?eská zbrojovka a.s. (CZ, lit. 'Czech armoury'), a Czech armament manufacturer that is based in Uherský Brod. Best known as "CZ-USA" in the United States, CZ is the manufacturer of the legendary CZ75 range of pistols, and a wide range of very well-regarded bolt action rifles. The CZ Vz.58 was developed beginning in 1956 at the insistence of the USSR that all the satellite states within its sphere standardize on a single rifle round, the ubiquitous 7.62x39 mm. Up to this point the Czechs had been issuing Vz.52 rifles and machine guns using their own proprietary 7.62x45 mm round. The vz. 58 was produced in several variants, including a fixed stock and folding version. This VZ2008 rifle is a clone of the standard vz. 58 P (P?chotní or "infantry") model with a fixed buttstock made of a rather unique synthetic plastic impregnated wood. The two types of stock, folding and fixed, are interchangeable and mount to the same mounting point on the rifle itself, which is identical in either variant. So this rifle can be changed to the folder with very little effort (unissued folding stocks are available at vz58usa). The rifle is immaculate and functions very well. The AR style rotating lever safety moves cleanly and smoothly, very different from the large safety lever of the AK family of rifles. The composite furniture was very advanced for its time, using a wood chip filler set in a dense synthetic polymer material. It is hard wearing and immune to moisture and gives the rifle a very unique look. Again, this stock set can be retrofitted with the earlier production hardwood stock set available from several parts suppliers. In 2011, the Czech army started replacing the Vz. 58 with the CZ-805 BREN, a much more modern AR/M16/M4/SCAR variant. The dissolution of Czechoslovakia on January 1, 1993, formally created two independent nations: the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The Vz. 58 still remains the main assault rifle of the Slovak army. Both Czech and Slovak soldiers were issued and used the Vz. 58 in Afghanistan as part of the Coalition Forces. Several photographs of the rifles' deployment are included. The blue tracksuit bottoms are apparently standard Czech Army issue! Slovak soldiers with Vz. 58's are also shown training Afghan soldiers (://army.mil/article/132655/slovak_team_trains_afghan_soldiers_to_instruct_their_own_weapons_training). A YouTube video of a firefight in Afghanistan shows a Czech soldier (yes, in his blue issued tracksuit bottoms) firing his Vz. 58 at the 8.39 minute point. Note the Czech sniper with an SVD in the background (yes, also in his tracksuit bottoms): ://youtube/watch?v=C78YsKahyHA&t=180s For a full review of the Vz.58 / VZ2008 follow this link: ://gunsgearandguystuff/2018/04/11/%EF%BB%BFfirearm-review-century-arms-vz2008-sporter/ This rifle is not C&R, and must be shipped to an FFL.
