“OLD RELIABLE” Marked 1874 SHARPS MEACHAM Carbine
Description: “OLD RELIABLE” Marked 1874 SHARPS MEACHAM Carbine Made in Bridgeport, CT & Converted in St. Louis, MO Here we present an antique Sharps Meacham Conversion Carbine, made in Connecticut. Over 100,000 Sharps rifles and carbines were purchased and used by the federal government during the American Civil War. These powerful, accurate and reliable rifles certainly saw history from a firsthand perspective during the conflicts leading up to the Civil War, the war itself, and beyond on the frontier. This specimen is an example of what has become known as a Meacham Conversion of a Sharps, named after the company E.C. Meacham in St. Louis, Missouri in the 1880s. This was a cartridge conversion of many Civil War surplus percussion Sharps carbines and rifles. This one features an “OLD RELIABLE” & “BRIDGEPORT” marked barrel, a marking that Sharps Rifle Co. began applying to their products in 1876. Curiously, the right side of the barrel, near the muzzle has several evenly spaced, period notches filed into it. These are certainly not incidental and we will let you judge their meaning. The stock bears an iron patchbox. This gun has been there and done that to be certain. The metal parts mostly wear a somewhat brown patina. The walnut stock has seen a lot of use and weathering. The markings on the gun are still mostly legible. The bore is dark and untouched. The action is strong. Several screws appear to have been replaced. This Old Reliable Sharps isn’t the queen of condition, but is a very interesting piece, having fought in the American Civil War, been converted in St. Louis, and then going who knows where and seeing a lot of hard use. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 24-3/4 inches in length. Caliber: 50-70 Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $2800 #10518 SOLD Antique: Yes |
