Antique CIVIL WAR Era STARR ARMS Metallic CARTRIDGE Saddle Ring Carbine
1 of Only 5,002 Manufactured During/Post War
Description: Antique CIVIL WAR Era STARR ARMS Metallic CARTRIDGE Saddle Ring Carbine 1 of Only 5,002 Manufactured During/Post War Here we present an antique Starr Arms Co. Metallic Cartridge Saddle Ring Carbine, made circa 1865 in Yonkers, New York. Only 5,002 of this later rimfire cartridge variant were ordered by the U.S. government with approximately 2,000 delivered between March and April during the last weeks of the war before the American Civil War’s end. That order followed up on the success of the earlier percussion variant, of which 20,601 were ordered by the Union during the war. The style and function certainly reflect the more popular Sharps rifle and carbine and utilized a .52 caliber rimfire cartridge. According to Holt Bodinson, the 12th Pennsylvania Cavalry received many of these new cartridge carbines in the early Spring of 1865. Many others of those 5,002 were likely never used in battle as the war officially ended that May. Overall, Eben T. Starr’s firearm designs made him quite successful during the Civil War, having provided the 3rd most .44 caliber revolvers and the 5th most carbines for the Union. In a conflict with so many different designs and cartridges in use at the same time, it is easy to overlook the Starr. The overall condition is good. Even, original brown patina. Strong action. The bore is mostly bright with crisp rifling and light frosting toward the breech. A repair has been made at the toe and has slight movement, good otherwise. Markings are legible. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 21 inches. Caliber: .52 Spencer Rimfire Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $2300 #250504 SOLD Antique: Yes |
