Description: EXCELLENT CIVIL WAR MAYNARD .50 CAL. U.S. CAVALRY CARBINE CA. 1864. 20” barrel. All original and matching. Frame stamped “EDWARD MAYNARD/PATENTEE/MAY 27, 1851/DEC. 6, 1864”. 95% plus original blue on the barrel and hammer and much of the original case colors on the frame and lever. Screws with most of the original bright blue. Stock with two excellent inspector’s cartouches and all the original finish. Perfect working order excellent bright bore with very sharp rifling. Union units of note that were equipped with the Maynard were the 9th and 11th Indiana U. S. Volunteer Cavalry Regiments figuring prominently in successful engagements with Hood’s Brigade during the Battle of Nashville after which they were sent to the West with their Maynard Carbines to fight Plains Indians.
