Description: MAGNIFICENT BATTLEFIELD RECOVERED 1859 SHARPS CARBINE W/ GETTYSBURG HISTORY HOLIDAY SUPER SALE $3250 ALL IN The most famous, single-shot, percussion firearm used during the Civil War was the Sharps carbine, a .52 caliber, breechloading firearm invented and patented by the Brilliant Hartford Connecticut native Christian Sharps serial #61093, .52 cal., 22” six-groove barrel with a bright good bore and strong rifling. The metal surfaces of this iron-mounted carbine are toning to an attractive lightly brown patina, the lockplate is more gray-brown, showing scattered areas of light pitting. The barrel address is softened and mostly intact and legible while “NEW MODEL 1859” behind the rear sight and the lockplate and frame markings are clear and the barrel is serialized to the frame. The American black walnut buttstock and forend rate very good with a crack in the wood line of the left side nose of the forend and some handling marks typical of a Civil War shoulder arm. The original sights and sling bar and ring are intact, the primer pushing arm is missing from the primer mechanism. The action is strong and crisp. A Good. solid salty example of a favorite Civil War cavalry weapon, this iconic carbine appears to have “been there done that” Qualifies for Free N EZ Lay Away. SOLD Antique: Yes |
