Maynard 2nd Model Carbine --Civil War Cavalry Issue--
Description: Civil War era 2nd Model Maynard Carbine in .50 Caliber Manufactured by the Massachusetts Arms Company in Chicopee Falls, MA. These were issued to mainly Union ArmyCavalry units during the latter half of the Civil War. They used a .50 Caliber brass cartridge which was fired via a small hole in the back of the case ignited by a percussion cap behind the breech. Being a breech loader, the barrel tips down by releasing the lever which also acts as a trigger guard. Standard 2 leaf rear sight and pinched front sight. Overall, this one is in NRA Antique Fine Plus Condition with 90% original barrel blue intact. The case colors on the frame have mostly faded to a nickel silver appears with shadows of mottled colors here and there. Saddle bar and original seamless saddle ring are intact. The stock is in Fine Condition exhibiting only minor handling marks with 2 crisp inspector cartouches on the left side near the action. Very Good to Fine Screws overall, several showing original blue. Hammer still shows most of its original blue intact. The action is tight with no play. The bore shows very little use with very strong lands and grooves. I'm not sure this has ever been fired as you can see the factory machining lines down in the lands and grooves. There is a little bit of light frostiness in a few places on the breech end so I hesitate to grade this as Excellent but easily Fine Condition and possibly unfired. Nice example of a Civil War Maynard. SOLD Antique: Yes Manufacturer: Massachusetts Arms Company Caliber Info: .50 Condition: Fine |
