RARE CIVIL WAR Antique SHARPS & HANKINS Model 1862 ARMY .44 Cal. RF Carbine SCARCE! One of only 500 Made Circa 1864
Description: RARE CIVIL WAR Antique SHARPS & HANKINS Model 1862 ARMY .44 Cal. RF Carbine SCARCE! One of only 500 Made Circa 1864 Here we present an antique Sharps and Hankins Model 1862 “Army” Carbine manufactured circa 1864 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This is an extremely scarce carbine with only 500 of the “Army” variants produced. Making it even more scarce, the 500 “Army” carbines were primarily chambered in .52 rimfire, with a very limited number experimentally chambered in other calibers, such as this example in .44 caliber rimfire. Sharps & Hankins produced three variants of their carbine, those being the Navy (6686 produced), the Army (500 produced), and the Short Cavalry (1000 produced). Made from 1862-65, the bulk of production was the more numerous Navy Carbine was still only just over 8,000 total were produced. The Sharps & Hankins 1862 Army Carbine is one of the scarcest Civil War carbines encountered. The shape of the carbine is distinctly Sharps and operates a bit differently than other carbines of the era. The trigger guard doubles as a lever, which is opened by pressing a small tab inside the smaller loop of the lever. Opening the lever slides the barrel away from the recoil shield for loading and unloading. It has a great elevating rear sight and brass butt-plate. The Army and Navy versions both had a 24-inch barrel with the Navy coming with a leather cover to protect the barrel from salt water. The Army version's barrel was blued. The Short Cavalry version had a 19-inch blued barrel. The overall condition is very good. Gray patina throughout. The action is excellent. The bore is in great shape with strong rifling. The stock shows use and remains solid. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 24 inches. Caliber: .44 Rimfire Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $2995 #227581 SOLD Antique: Yes |
