Sharps & Hankins Model 1862 Navy Carbine w/ Original Leather Wrapped B
Description: Serial #5169, .52 RF, 24" barrel with a very good bore that has some dark spots of pitting within the grooves. This is a nice looking carbine that retains 95-97% of the original leather barrel jacket that has cracked and flaked in spots, especially along the still intact underside flap. The metal has an overall mottled plum-brown patina with scattered areas of freckling and some pinprick pitting, heaviest at the muzzle collar. The original sliding firing pin block safety is still present and fully functional. The walnut buttstock has an old added varnish over rather good wood with numerous light-moderate bruises and blemishes scattered about, mainly along the sides of the wrist. The brass buttplate has developed an attractive yellow-ochre patina over time as well. This is a very good Sharps & Hankins overall, and would make a great addition to a collection.
