Sharps New Model 1863 Carbine .50-70 1st MD VOL CAV
Description: Civil War Indian Wars Sharps 1863 New Model Carbine Converted .50-70, serial no. 90906 manufactured between 1863-1865 1st MD VOL CAVALRY & 13th NY VOL CAVALRY This Sharps Carbine just screams “been there done that!” Lots of character, and without a doubt saw plenty of use both during the Civil War and Indian Wars. The left side of the buttstock along with the overall wear is consistent with cavalry use. Also has a nice cartouche on the buttstock. 100% original, complete, and mechanically perfect. Wear is authentic and consistent with cavalry use. Originally manufactured as a Sharps 1863 New Model percussion carbine sometime between 1863 and 1865. The serial number, 90906, is in the midst of those Sharps carbines know to have been issued to the 1st MD VOL. CAVALRY and the 13 NY VOL CAVALRY. This is what Springfield Research Service calls a “range match.” Post Civil War converted to .50-70 government. These Sharps .50-70 carbine conversions saw plenty of hard use on the frontier, especially in the Arizona Territory. Most were phased out between 1874-1876 for the newly developed 1873 Springfield Carbine. Please examine all pictures closely for overall condition. If your looking for a "true" Civil War-Indian War gun that saw actual service this is it. Some surface rust-pitting just forward of the breech and front sight. Otherwise nice even brown-grey patina. Please email if you have any questions or desire additional pictures. New to GI but have 100% positive feedback on eBay since 1996. Also A+ rating on . Thank you for looking. Check, postal money order, or Paypal. Please add 3% for paypal. SOLD Rifle Caliber: .50-70 Government |
