Smith Carbine ~ Civil War ~ .50 Caliber BP. Manufactured by American Machine Works and agents, Thomas Poultry & D.B. Trimble, Baltimore. The left side of receiver is marked, ADDRESS/POLTNEY & TRIMBLE/BALTIMORE, U.S.A" and "SMITH'S PATENT/JUNE 23 1857" which are still showing stong numbers and letters. Under the two cross-bolts of the receiver the first line is faint but appears to be MANUFACTURED BY/AM'N M'CH'N WKS" the last line is significantly worn but there is enough to be "SPRINGFILED MASS".

Chambers: Single shot.
Metal Condition: Mostly all patina, slight hint of faded case color remaining on receiver.
Wood Condition: Fair with numerous scratches and two short age cracks in the butt where wood joins the receiver near the bottom.
Bore Condition: Still has rifling but numerous shallow pitts yet has decent shine remaining.
Barrels: 21 5/8
Triggers: Single.
Stock: Walnut with cartouche in the wrist of the left side of the butt-stock.
Stock Dimensions:
14 1/2" length of pull.
Butt Pad: Steel plate.
Sights: Silver blade front sight and flip up rear.
