US Model 1843 Hall Percussion Cavalry Carbine by Simeon North Civil War
Description: NSN, .52 Caliber, 21" barrel with a good, lightly pitted bore. This is an 1848-dated carbine that has an overall plum-brown patina on the exposed metal, with some silvering at the muzzle as well as along the exposed edges and projections. There are patches of mild freckling and pinprick pitting scattered throughout, as well as some small impact marks on the barrel breech just ahead of the breechblock, on top of the breechblock around the "U.S. / S. NORTH / MIDDLTN / CONN / 1848" markings, and at the base of the percussion nipple. There are still traces of the original color case-hardening still visible on the protected flanks of the breechblock, visible on both sides when opened. The original walnut stock has an overall dark brown military oil finish with a soft, but still visible inspector cartouches on either side, just ahead of the wrist. The wood has numerous small handling marks and small blemishes scattered throughout with some straight line drying cracks on the left side running diagonally back from the action, and some further short drying cracks visible at the buttplate on the left side as well. The sling ring is still present, as is a correct iron ramrod. The action lock-up is still tight and the action functions flawlessly, catching firmly at both half and full-cock. This is a very good plus example of an unmodified Model 1843 Hall carbine, and would be a great addition to any collection of pre-Mexican War American military arms. Antique; SOLD Antique: Yes |
