Very Scarce KENTUCKY CONTRACT Triplett & Scott CIVIL WAR Repeating Carbine
Made by MERIDEN MFG. CO. for KENTUCKY HOME GUARD
Description: Very Scarce KENTUCKY CONTRACT Triplett & Scott CIVIL WAR Repeating Carbine Made by MERIDEN MFG. CO. for KENTUCKY HOME GUARD Here we present an antique “KENTUCKY” Marked Triplett & Scott Patent Carbine, made circa 1864-65 by the Meriden Manufacturing Company of Meriden, Connecticut. Meriden Manufacturing was started by Charles Parker and his brother, who would later become famous worldwide for their beautiful shotguns under the Parker Brothers name. But before they made their mark with their firearms, they first found success during the Civil War by working with the Union government. They produced the Triplett & Scott Repeating Rifle and Carbine on a contract with Kentucky, making around 5,000 weapons. Of these, about 3,000 had 30-inch barrels and were issued to the Kentucky Home Guard to help defend supply trains as General Sherman led his march toward Atlanta. The diversity of weapons, especially carbines, during the Civil War was incredible. All of them are different in their own way. The Triplett & Scott Rifle & Carbine differentiates itself by its operation. The 7-shot magazine tube is housed in the front of the wrist of the butt stock. By placing the hammer in half-cock and depressing a button with the right thumb, one would be able to twist the forward portion of the gun, which would activate the automatic ejector, pushing the empty case out, before the receiver pushed aside the loading gate on the magazine tube to pick up another cartridge. The design was quite ingenious and the precision with which it was executed is still evident. This rifle is marked “KENTUCKY” on the left side of the receiver. The tang is marked “TRIPLETT & SCOTT/PATENT DEC. 6, 1864”. The left side of the frame is marked “MERIDEN MANFG. CO./MERIDEN. CONN.” The right side of the frame is marked with the serial number. Here is a true and timeless relic! This example maintains an original dark patina. Strong action. Bright, strongly rifled bore with light pitting near the breech. Solid forend. The buttstock has some wiggle where it meets the frame and a large portion of the left wrist is absent. Legible markings. Here is a unique Civil War rifle with Kentucky heritage! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 30 inches. Caliber: .50 Rimfire Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE.
