"Confederate Fayetteville Armory Rifle Type IV .58 caliber (AL9982) Consignment

NSN, made in 1864, .58 caliber, 33"" round proofed barrel. One of the 5000 Type IV's made towards the end of the Civil War by the Fayetteville Armory from altered parts captured from Harpers Ferry. Barrel is dark brown patina with ""V/P/EAGLE"", rear sight has been removed. Lock plate is marked ""Eagle/C.S.A-FAYETTEVILLE"" forward of S contour hammer. Rear is marked ""1864"". Stock has some wood loss rear of the bolster and nipple from usage, a light coat of varnish has been applied.original Confederate sling is attached, action is loose at full cock.
