Guns International #: 101499959
Seller's Inventory #: AL5097
Confederate pattern 1853 Enfield by Barnett, London. Overall length is approximately 55”. The 39” round barrel is .577 caliber. Bore is good with visible rifling. All metal has a smooth brown patina. Stock is very good with sharp edges and the nicks and dings to be expected of a 160-year-old rifle-musket. There are no cracks or chips. Barrel has three British proofs. The lock is marked “Barnett/ London” with no other marks. The left stock flat is marked with the stocker’s name, “Crocker”. Evidence of Confederate use are the crown/ “S”/ “HC”/ arrow (right-pointing) stamp just forward of the butt plate; and, the left flat oval “I.C.” view mark per The English Connection, by Pritchard and Huey. It shows “S”/ ”HC” mark stands for Sinclair, Hamilton & Co., a major English exporter to the Confederate States of America (p.111). Also indicates the oval “I.C.” is a Confederate viewer’s mark (p.106). Action functions correctly. It’s not often that a solid Confederate Enfield musket, in very nice shape, comes along. Don’t miss this one!
