Description:
"Serial number 1763. Made in 1863. 44 RF caliber with a 24.25" barrel. This gun has a reasonably sharp barrel with a light bluish gray barrel. THe barrel address is very clear. This is an early gun with the sight notch in the frame. The left hand side of the side plate is engraved “D. W. Jones" Unfortunately, there are too many possibilities to narrow it down to a single soldier. The wood is undersized, but does not show signs of refinishing. There is a repair on the right hand side of the stock where the sling swivel was plugged. All numbers are matching. Action works perfectly and bore has strong rifling with pitting. Very good Civil Ware period rifle that almost certainly saw use.
