"Rare Japanese Meiji Pattern 1861 Enfield with Louisiana civil war acceptance stamp.577 (AL9731)
Description: "NSN, circa 1860's, .577 caliber, 33"" round barrel. Top of barrel marked with Japanese kanji which translate to indicate that this gun was counted (registered)in Meiji 5 (1872) and was gun #1311. Barrel and other metal parts are a brown/grey patina with light surface oxidation visible. Lock plate is marked ""TOWER/1868"" rear of hammer is stamped with a ""CROWN"". Bore shows frosting and light pitting in the grooves rifling remains strong. Toe of stock marked with a six-pointed star surrounding the letter L at the rear of the trigger guard tang, a mark that is known to have been used on Enfields purchased by the State of Louisiana during the American Civil War. Stock is good with expected nicks, dings and scratches, left side has kanji that indicate that the gun was inventoried during Meiji 28 (1895) in Ise Province and was assigned the inventory number 706 at that time.
